The Workshop on Numerical Prediction on Tropical Cyclones was took place at the Central Weather Bureau on 20-21 May, 2014. The goals of the workshop were to discuss cutting edge research in the field of tropical cyclones, and to foster collaboration in transitioning new research findings toward improving numerical prediction of tropical cyclones.

The workshop was co-organized by the TTFRI/NARLabs, Central Weather Bureau (CWB), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Development Testbed Center (DTC). It covered several aspects of tropical cyclone modeling, including:

     ‧Track and intensity forecasts
    ‧Genesis of tropical cyclones
    ‧Quantitative precipitation forecast
‧Data assimilation techniques and data impacts
‧Physical processes and their representations in models
    ‧Operational tropical cyclone prediction

The President of NARLabs, Dr. Ching Hua Lo, had an opening speech for the workshop.

Over 20 distinguished speakers were invited to participate in the workshop.

The Director of NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory, Dr. MacDonald, was invited as a keynote speaker for the workshop, and presented the characteristics if global weather models on icosahedral grids.

Dr. Chin-Cheng Tsai from TTFRI/NARLabs was introducing the Taiwan Cooperative Precipitation Ensemble Forecast Experiment (TAPEX).

About 200 participants joined the two-day workshop.
